Infrared technology ULTIMA X IR Technology An electrically modulated infrared energy source and two detectors convert infrared energy into electrical signals. Each of the detectors is characterized by sensitivity to different wavelength ranges in the infrared spectrum. Radiation from the source is directed through a window in the main body into the sensor cavity. A mirror, protected by a second window, directs the energy back to the main building to the detectors.
The presence of a combustible gas in the sensor cavity reduces the intensity of radiation from the source that hits the detector, but does not reduce the intensity of radiation that hits the normalizing detector.
The microprocessor analyzes the relationship between these two signals and converts it to a percentage LEL reading of the combustible gases.
